E3 2021 Code of Conduct
E3 is owned and produced by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).
This policy provides general guidelines and does not address every possible type of covered conduct. ESA reserves the right to apply corrective action to instances other than the specific examples noted. ESA also reserves the right to modify this policy at any time.
To protect the integrity of E3 and our community, ESA reserves the right to take action in response to any conduct or content that ESA determines in its sole discretion to be inappropriate, harmful, or otherwise inconsistent with our policies. Such actions may include: removal of content; suspension or removal of the account; temporary or permanent removal of an individual or entity from any official E3 venues, services, and events; cancellation without penalty of an E3 contract; and any other action that ESA deems reasonably necessary. The decisions and judgments made regarding potential violations of any E3 policy shall be made in the sole discretion of ESA and are final and cannot be challenged.
No one under the age of 17 is permitted to enter official E3 venues and events.
Compliance with Laws and Rules
All E3 participants must respect all applicable local, national, and international laws, rules, and regulations. Any content or activity featuring, encouraging, offering, or soliciting illegal activity is prohibited.
Unauthorized Sharing of Private Information
E3 participants may not share content that may reveal private personal information about other individuals, or their private property, without their permission. This includes sharing personally-identifiable information (such as full name, personal addresses and/or location, user ID, email addresses, telephone numbers, or social security numbers); sharing restricted or protected social profiles or any information from those profiles; and sharing content that violates another’s reasonable expectation of privacy (for example streaming from a private space or recording a private meeting, without permission).
E3 strives to provide a safe, inclusive, harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, color, caste, religion, national origin, immigration status, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, veteran status, and other protected categories. Participating in a global event brings with it the responsibility to be mindful of different cultures and customs. ESA does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, hateful conduct, or abusive treatment in any manner, including verbal harassment, intimidation or threats, and sexually explicit, suggestive, or provocative behavior.
Violence and Threats
Acts and threats of violence are strictly prohibited. This includes attempts or threats to physically harm or kill others; and attempts or threats to hack, DDOS, or SWAT others; and use of weapons to physically threaten or intimidate others.
Content that exclusively focuses on extreme or gratuitous gore and violence is also prohibited. ESA does not permit content that glorifies, encourages, or supports terrorism or violent extremist actors or acts. This includes threatening to, or encouraging others to, commit acts that would result in serious physical harm to groups of people or significant property destruction. E3 participants may not display or link to terrorist or extremist propaganda, including graphic pictures or footage of terrorist or extremist violence, even for the purposes of denouncing such content.
If E3 participants have concerns or issues about their safety, the decorum of other attendees, or other matters, then they should contact E3 at [email protected].
Activity that may endanger your life or physically harm you is prohibited. This includes suicide threats, intentional physical trauma, and the use of illegal drugs.
Nudity, Pornography, and Other Sexual Content
Nudity and sexually-explicit content or activities, including pornography, sexual acts or intercourse, and sexual services, are prohibited. Sexually-suggestive content or activities are also prohibited, although they may be allowed for pre-approved licensed content subject to additional restrictions. Content or activities that threaten or promote sexual violence or exploitation are strictly prohibited and may be reported to law enforcement.
Content or activity meant to impersonate an individual or organization is prohibited.
Spam, Scams, and Other Malicious Conduct
Any content or activity that disrupts, interrupts, harms, or otherwise violates the integrity of E3 or another user’s or entity’s experience or devices is prohibited. Such activity includes posting large amounts of repetitive, unwanted messages or user reports; distributing unauthorized advertisements; phishing; defrauding others; spreading malware or viruses; misinformation tampering (such as artificially inflating viewer stats); and defacing, or attempting to deface, website pages or other E3 services/sites (such as uploading inappropriate or malicious content).
Intellectual Property Rights
The sharing of unauthorized content is prohibited. Any unauthorized content shared via an official E3 venue may be subject to a takedown by the rights holder(s) to remove the infringing content in addition to enforcement action(s) by ESA.
E3 participants are prohibited from sharing, exchanging, and/or allowing others to use their E3 account, credentials, and/or profile. Each participant requires his or her own unique profile/log-in.
All suspensions and removals of accounts, individuals, and/or entities are binding. Any attempts to circumvent a suspension or removal by using other accounts or identities, or by using other accounts, are prohibited.
Assumption of Risk
Each E3 participant assumes all risk and danger in connection with his/her/its participation in E3, whether occurring prior to, during, or after E3, and agrees to release and hold harmless ESA in the event of harm incurred in connection with E3. By participating in E3, each participant consents to release any and all rights such participant may otherwise have to his/her likeness, and to any photographs, recordings, or other images owned or created by ESA or its agents, any exhibitor or sponsor, and/or any member of the media. Each participant grants ESA, exhibitors, sponsors, and media the right, permission, and license to use his/her name, voice, image, and likeness, and releases and holds harmless ESA, exhibitors, sponsors, and media from liability resulting from such use.
